Dirt Girl – And here I was under the impression that you were shy and reserved! 😆
I agree it was cool to see people on the trial or peak that were there because they knew the flags were coming. We were leap-frogging on the Osseo Trail up Flume with two young women that were anxious to see the flag up and waving. And when we got to Flume’s summit, a man had been there at 9:00 (we arrived about 1:15) who had mistaken the time – and waited 2+ hours! We had a crowded peak most of the time and many knew about the event. Last really cool thing – a woman with 3 dogs, all with saddle bags, came up JUST as we were headed out of the storm – said she had forgotten this was the day for the FOT48 hike … WE SAW HER ON MORIAH LAST YEAR!
Cool time and cool to meet you all! Ken – did I meet you at KOA or … ?

Magic and others – Glad you liked the home brew, hope others did as well. I will have to come up with a different recipe for next year and also key in to the peak we will cover. Should become a tradition no?

          Chip,
I believe I remember seeing your plan for Jackson, a peak I have thought about too. I think we met at KOA – seem to remember the Jackson connection. But then I may have already tasted my homemade “Blueberry Flume”. Did you get a chance to try some out? We were the Flume Team with about 5 tents at the front corner of the circle.

P.S. I heard a discussion of doing all 48 peaks for FOT48 events, I would be 102 yrs old if I did, maybe my son could do it! 😆

While I was not as close to the scene in NY that day, I remember it well. Working in the Hartford CT area, my computer’s homepage was a news page, CNN maybe – don’t remember that exactly. But when I looked at the computer I saw the first news flash in minutes from when it happened. I watched closely for the next minutes and when the 2nd tower strike was displayed, I said to others in the office: “this is no accident”. I know, an understatement for sure, but the sense of reason in us said it could not happen that way. This is what makes it so sad and incredible that it happened at all. We cannot fathom the philosophical makeup of those who are committed enough to do such suicidal missions. I am glad that my son got me involved in the Flags event and feel strongly for those who have suffered in connection with the 9/11 attacks.

Glad you enjoyed the brew … it’s the best satisfaction I get out of making a batch, to see others enjoy it!

It’s good to see you back and in good spirits Sherp. I did Wildcat-D 2 years ago on short notice and it was a good start for me in the FOT-48 initiation. Hope to see you hiking one day soon.

I feel the same as Wounded-Knee … having done this for three years now it just gets better. I encourage any out there to click on the “Victims List” from this homepage and tell me if you don’t choke up over the regular lives you see that were snuffed out so early. I feel very lucky!

Thanks Puck & Pucknuts … we got the flag pole going at Wildcat-D in 2004 and bought a new 6×10 last year to increase chances of seeing it from afar. Tweaking the system a bit but it has pretty much worked well for us now for 3 years, this year’s breeze giving it a good stress test.

I think I speak for most all of the Flume team in that it was good to see many of the “trail names” in person. Jaytrek, Magic & Ghost Dog, Stephen, Dirt_girl, Tom (from Tom), Sabrina, SilentCal & Kathy, Vickie etc. We had a good group ourselves there with 5 tents. Hope anyone who stopped by for a taste of the “Blueberry Flume” liked it.
                            Thanks all … TrekMan

Good to meet you and Gorpburp on Flume this year. Sorry we did not have the flag up longer after you arrived, could not take any chances. We unfortunately did not get any pics with you in them, if you did get some please let me know and we can add to the Flume album.
