Oh, also, we plan to bring our dog, Terra. She barks a bit, being an Australian Shepherd and trying to herd the hikers together, but is very friendly and energetic and a lot of fun to hike with. I hope this won’t be an issue for anyone.

Oops! Indeed, there are “46 albums” there, not 48. We’ll get them up asap and then those great pics can all get posted!

        Thanks for letting us know.

BTW, you can get FCC licenses online. My understanding is that you just need form 605 for a GMRS radio, but the research is left as an exercise for the reader. 😀

I’ve heard good things about GMRS radios compared to the FRS radios, especially for uses like keeping a group together while at a ski area. If you’re going to use them a lot, it’s probably worth it.

Radio models that use GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service) do in fact require an FCC license.
An FRS (Family Radio Service)-only radio does not.

                        in reply to: Flume #53754

I asked some experienced folk and got the following opinions:

Possible, but difficult and might need help. I’d suggest going via Liberty Springs, then following the ridge over to Flume.

It’s doable and dogable. {My dog} has done it a couple of times. More stress for me then him.

Yes it is dogable. {My dog} and I have done it. The thing about the Flume slide trail, where it difffers from Huntington for instance, is that it is possible to bushwhack any section where you don’t feel like going up over the rocks, so a person or dog should never feel stuck in some particular place. As we went up I noticed herd trails all over the place.

Shoulda been in VT for that “stream” in the field. It became a pond by midafternoon. Oh, and the field? Cow field. Part of the dairy farm.

That mud … it ain’t mud.
