The Washington summit had the state park flags flying, a small flag (we don’t know who set it up) off the summit sign, and for about 15-20 minutes the big 8×12′ flag was up, until the winds forced us to take it down. I read average sustained at 43mph on my handheld, and the Obs recorded a 71mph gust during that time.

I’m sorry that the Peak Coordinator’s plan didn’t work out for you (I don’t see it posted here, how did they get in touch with you?) but there’s nothing preventing you from heading in Saturday morning as a day hike and helping with the setup up on the summit and participating up there, even though the actual hike in and out won’t be with the main group.

Thanks, Charlie. Some folk were asking on Facebook about the Carrigain plans so I cross-posted your hike plan over there.

Note that biking the road makes the peak not count towards the AMC 48 list, so anyone who wants & needs this peak for the patch & scroll should walk the road.

Since my leg is not nearly ready yet for a 4K, I’ll be driving up the Auto Road with my camera gear in the early morning to ensure a parking spot. I’ll keep an eye out for you all coming from Lakes around, what, 11ish? I’m happy to drive up anything that you’d like me to. I’ll bring a cooler of sodas and juices and a bunch of snacks, too.

…spoke with the Saco Ranger office (603-447-5448) yesterday. The work on the tower was to be completed tomorrow (Wednesday). The road work that was to be started in July of this year, may not be started until late spring 2013.

Chris has been working to try to update the site and get the galleries working again. Right now my understanding is that there are issues with the back end of the system (for example, I see memory limit errors from the web server).

A USFS temporary sign at the Signal Ridge Trail indicates an anticipated end date of Sep 3rd for the work, so even if they go over by a few days it will hopefully still be available for you.

It can definitely be done. We had good views of the Zealand flag from atop South Twin last year. Impressive as all get-out.

My photos are up in the Facebook group. I’ll get them added to the album here in a day or two (it’s a little less automated).

The disadvantage to moderating signups is that it puts a large burden on a smaller number of people. However, the advantage is that one spammer signup can result in many posts, and the burden is still on those select few to disable that account.

I picked up a copy of the paper today. I can’t post it (darned copyright laws) but will hold onto it (or provide it) as an archival copy.
