in reply to: Should we have a rain date? #50947
Wow. 😥
Talk about missing a “big” one (logistically)…at least to discuss.Maybe I overlooked a thread.
With it being on a Sunday this year, I totally overlooked the “rain-out”, well, severe weather factor.
I would throw out the idea that if severe weather is forcasted for that day, that perhaps the time frame of 12-2pm be shifted to something like “raise a flag” for whatever time period fits? Did that make sense?
Interested to hear the response and suggestions.
Good catch Cal.
peace.
in reply to: Flags on the 48: The Documentary #50920I agree with Frodo.
Hey, maybe that can be the new phrase. God, I miss Postr’boy!
in reply to: Flags on the 48: The Documentary #50915Dave,
Welcome aboard.
I hoping to have people over my place about a month out (Aug 11) if logistically that helps.
I am sure others feel the same as I do but, Frodo, SilentCal, Stephen should be at the top of “I must see” list. WOW, you guys sound important, remind me to bust your chops over a beer. 😉
Also, talking to the BSA troop that was involved last year and again this may be valuable.
Again, welcome aboard, and I hope you will join a group for the actual hike itself, no matter what group, that alone will give you, what we all, experience through this important event.
Peace,
in reply to: Grandfathered Peaks #50876It is hoped the sign-up process this year will encourage newer people to sign-up. Seeing their names I believe will be a big help.
IMHO, I believe people will feel less “locked” out this year, b/c “peak coordinators” will take a more active roll empowering them the weeks leading up to the event.
A peak may be “grandfathered”, but, at least for me, I am confident that other crews from year to year would welcome me if I wanted to hike that particular peak, in any given year.
Side Note:
After countless log-ons, I finally saw my crew on the Featured Photo!! :flag:
Got to play the lottery tonight!
in reply to: Updated History Page ?? #50853It looks great!
Just my “style” comments. BTW…It looks fantastic as is…just my $.02 as all.
Replace America, with the United States.
Remove “horrific” from the first sentence. Terrorist acts are by definition “horrific”…plus it is used again further down.
She was carried to the peaks by dedicated bands of hikers wishing to pay their respects to the all the families and communities that grieve the ultimate and tragic loss of innocent lives.
Typo. “the” all the families. Remove “the”.
in reply to: Thank You! #50849Cal,
I don’t think eneough credit can be thrown your way. Sure, everyone is great, dedicate, etc…but at least in my case, and I am sure others, your leadership was greatly appreciated.
Nice meeting everyone for the first time or once again. I do believe this year will be our best yet!!! :flag:
Vikki, Jackson keeps complaining I don’t give hime his “special” dog bones, like that nice hiker lady. 😉
Peace.
in reply to: coberg name change #50863Can I be Chris too!!

in reply to: Flags Weekend F.A.Q #50776Cal and company,
I will be up Friday around 6:00pm as well.
Did some “creative” scheduling with my staff so I can bug out early on Friday.
Really looking forward to it. :flag:
in reply to: Flags Weekend F.A.Q #50763I’ll meet the “group” at the campsite in the early am and go from there.
Just bust’n your chops a bit Cal, I am in complete agreement. :flag:
in reply to: Flags Weekend F.A.Q #50759I’ll be there early AM on the 21. I’m up for any hike.BTDT.
BTW, Is a six pack of Tucks a stupidly vast amount of alcohol?
Peace.
in reply to: Planning Meeting Question (Newbee) #50740vpalango:
What peak would you and your troop be interested in? Perhaps we could discuss it at the planning meeting and help secure it?
Just some thoughts.
in reply to: New poll: 2005 Flags on the 48 #50553Just my $.02.
I think things are pretty simple now and I agree…I like that.
I do however enjoy discussing/debating other ideas on this BBS throughout the year. A point could be made that we had full coverage for the first time b/c of this.
Anyhow…if it ain’t broke don’t fix it…but it never hurts to take steps to make sure it doesn’t break in the first place.
Peace.
in reply to: 2005 Flags on the 48 #50519I would prefer just one day…and lean towards whenever the 11th falls on. In 2006 9/11 is on a Monday…do we then do three days?
I understand the rationale for making it a Saturday event. However, and perhaps it just me, with a little prior planning (and you have a years to do so) taking a week-day or two off to do FTO48 is not impossible. Yes…I know “everyone” is different…with different obligations, commitments and what-not…however….this holds true for all days…..ah hell…little hard to explain.
Let me try this. If this event was on a Wednesday…I’d be there…and from what I have seen on this board, on the peaks and at the Mooseland…I would wager a T-shirt most would be there as well.
Perhaps not a T-shirt…their collector items. 😉
Just some thoughts.
Peace. :flag:
