I am hoping the crew at the hut, had a nice climb and memorial on the Dome. Unfortunately, I had to bail out Saturday morning and head out from the hut. Little sleep and a case of the wobble knees had me heading out after breakfast. 🙁 Met the Windham crew heading up as I was heading out. Hope all made the Dome and enjoyed a beautiful day. Looking forward to the gallery pics, there is always next year..

Johanna, you will enjoy this. The Carter Notch Hut is my favorite. I will see you there. The peak coordinator for Cannon is Darwin, I believe, and if you hit the member key to the left, I think he is listed Alphabetically under “Darwin” You can usually get a personal message or e-mail off to him by tapping his screename there. I will see you on the 11th at the Hut! Oh, don’t feel bad about carrying “stuff” on my previous FOT48s, the flags and poles all seem to get up there without issue. :flag:

Hi Brenda, thats great! I will be at the Ammo trail head Saturday morning, as noted in my post. There are usually a couple crews staying at the Lakes hut Friday evening, some will be probably heading south to Eisenhower, and some heading up to the Big Guy. I see on the AMC site, the LOTC hut is sold out for Saturday the 13th, so there should be lots of visitors to our memorial.
It will be a fun day, lets hope for clear skies..

If we can get a couple of flags a flyin on Monroe, we will be the envy of the 4Krs … 4×8 is HUGE!!!! awesome.

            See you there. :flag:

Hi to all FOT48 Whiteface climbers.
I get e-mails from another “MeetUp” group, and just recieved one saying there are some hikers (maybe 10?) planning on leaving from the Ferncroft trailhead parking area, and taking Blueberry Ledge trail to Whiteface (and then onto Passaconaway) at 7:30 am as well. I let that group know about us, and hopefully, we will have a good size group going on up. The Ferncroft parking is plentiful, and should accomodate everyone fine. I am staying Friday at the trailhead (grey F150 w/ camper cap) and will have the table set, with granolas, muffins, juice and fresh hot coffee going at 6:30 am or so, if anyone is interested in fueling up with us, please be welcome.. I looking forward to another great FOT48 hike, and super 9/11 memorial.. can’t wait! See Ya Saturday.. SD

This is sooo cool! folks wanting to honor those lost on that tragic day, 9/11 in whichever way they can, on any mountain they can climb and raise the American flag. I just think its great.
Its not about altitude. Its about attitude. And thats some GOOD attitude! :flag:

wt, I think you will be good with a 20′ pole. The trees are not real tall up at that altitude. We did not realize we needed the extra height in 2009, therefore the “heads-up” I saw last years gallery pix, and they had to bind a few tree limbs to get above the trees..but it worked well!!
Zealand is a great hike, you get the hut, the falls, and Z-Cliffs have one of the best vistas in the Whites. Have fun..

OK Donna, its a date, we’ll see you there. I’m sure we will have a great FOT48 hike.
We have been very fortunate, the last three 48s we did, (09, 10, 11) we had fantastic weather. Lets hope 2012 is same. I have a new “Honor Flag” for this year, which is a 3′ X 5′ USA style, stars and stripes, with every name, of every person lost on that tragic day. It will be special!

                          to: wtcobb and crew,
Zealand was my first FOT48, in 2009 :flag: its really a great climb..
I just wanted to inform the 2012 crew, that Zealand is a fully treed in summit. We brought a 12 foot extendable flag pole, and I actually climbed a tree about 10 feet to strap the pole, so that the flag could be seen above the tree tops. Just wanted to pass that info along about Zealands summit, in case you’ve never been there. See the previous years Gallery photos for hints.
The taller your pole, the better..

Shawns, Jr. & Sr. are on board…
I just checked in on the AMC White Mt. Guide Online, Trail Reports, and as of today, Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail notes: “there are a few blow downs, and some water crossings, but trail is passable” with a book time of 3 hrs and 4 minutes from trailhead to Mt. Monroe. We plan to start up at about 7:30 = 8:00 am, just to get rolling, and meet nopepr at the LofC Hut. I am confident that most blowdowns will be cleared by 9/11. If the coordinator (mtnpa) needs any help with Sherpa duties, or anything, please let me know.
Thanks, see ya at the peak! :flag:

                              DC Nopepr,
I hope all goes well with your medical issue, and we can get a nice FOT48 memorial going at Zealand Saturday 9/12.
If there is anything I can do to help out, anything I should bring, please let me know.
I also sent you a PM, with my plans. I look forward to meeting up with you and Craig at the hut Friday evening.
                              Thanks, Shawn D
