Oh yes, need to add info about what participants are supposed to do (and not supposed to do!) Such as, “Raise your flag at noon and fly it for 2 hours.” (? is that the time and duration we agreed on ?) Leave no trace info, such as, “Do not leave your flag on the mountain, etc.”
Anything else?MMMMay 20, 2002 at 8:21 pmPost count: 16MMMMay 20, 2002 at 8:12 pmPost count: 16MMMMay 15, 2002 at 9:39 pmPost count: 16MMMMay 15, 2002 at 9:30 pmPost count: 16MMMNovember 16, 2001 at 7:14 pmPost count: 16
I agree, we should launch no earlier than 5 or 6 months before the event. We will have too many no-shows otherwise—people who’s initial enthusiasm wanes.
Plus, after winter is over the 3-season hikers get excited about hiking again. But 5-6 months is early enough so people can pre-plan (i.e. set aside a day or two of vacation time)MMMOctober 29, 2001 at 9:20 pmPost count: 16MMMOctober 17, 2001 at 8:40 pmPost count: 16MMMOctober 15, 2001 at 10:00 pmPost count: 16MMMOctober 15, 2001 at 9:58 pmPost count: 16MMMOctober 2, 2001 at 10:10 pmPost count: 16
Should we have some brief explanation as to why/how we are connecting this event to the 48 peaks? Maybe something about hikers getting together to show a sign of unity? Or is it unnecessary to explain the significance of the 48? I guess I am mostly throwing this suggestion out there in response to all that nonsense on Hiker Journal a couple weeks ago.MMMSeptember 25, 2001 at 9:28 pmPost count: 16
I can see allowing people to fly other flags on summits in addition to the American flag, but not in place of it. Yes, 20% of the victims were from other countries, but the main target was to kill Americans on US soil. I think it’s fine and appropriate to acknowledge these other countries, but not at the cost of downplaying or denying patriotism for our own country.MMMSeptember 25, 2001 at 8:29 pmPost count: 16MMMSeptember 25, 2001 at 8:07 pmPost count: 16
First, they are really scaring me over on HJ!
Second, I see a valid point for the Wednesday date, for both reasons stated by RJ. By using the actual anniversary date the event would be very powerful and meaningful. And because it’s a Wednesday we would really only attract people who are sincerely interested.
Third, what do you all think of this idea of raising flags from other nations?MMMSeptember 25, 2001 at 5:18 pmPost count: 16
