I do not think I could add another 30 feet to the flagpole rig and restrain myself from using it.

Team Field reports success, though I have been too busy to get a TR up, hopefully soon.

I think Brian is suggesting that you attach guy line points at the lower sections, raise the pole as best as possible and then tie off the guy lines for support.

Though others have been successful with smaller PVC pipes, we switched to a larger diameter (4″ drainpipe) pole section and that greatly reduced the swaying problem you get with the 1″ PVC at lengths greater than 20′.

It is worth noting that the record length (and I may be wrong) still holds at 38′ on Zealand by Dirtgirl using smaller PVC with multiple guylines. We got an aluminum bottom-loading tripod design up to 39 feet briefly, but it didn’t last long enough to call it a success.

Glad to hear we still have a crew. :flag:

We’re planning on starting up from the trailhead around 9:00am to give us plenty of time – with hopes of having the flag up from 12-3pm.

We’ll be working on the flagpole rig tonight. I’ll post if it looks like we’ll need help lugging it up.

I made a list last year which I cut and taped into a scroll. Rolled out, it was just a few inches short of 48 feet. Certainly easly divided by 48 peaks.

We’ll be carrying it up Wildcat A this year.

Man… first time I’ve been in the forums in a while.

The Facilities Union was glad to be of some service. Squeaky and I are looking forward to seeing everyone again after this years event.

I decided to copy the info and print it out to bring with us.

Even at a 10 point font, this is 44 sheets of legal size paper.

I’ve taped them together into a scroll which I plan on carrying up. A very long list – rather sobering to look at.

Unfurled, it’s FORTY EIGHT feet long. 😮

Actually, we suspect that the previous record will hold, especially if there is significant wind.

Scoutmaster Gary made a fairly clever rig, but the challenge of keeping the material light and sturdy starts to get serious once you approach 30 feet.

If nothing else, we’ve got a reusable 25′ pole and stand. We have an extra 15′ of additions to go for the 40′ mark, but last night’s Iwo Jima reenactment wasn’t very encouraging.

Gary is working on a modification that might make it work. I suspect we’ll probably give max height a go, and then lower the rig to whatever conditions allow.

I’m looking forward to it either way.
