in reply to: 2009 Flags dates #54155
Drier weather in the morning so I can haul up the really good camera. 🙂
On a more serious note, I’d like to get more people in the same place aprés-event.
in reply to: How do I post 2008 pics #54135The permissions are still locked; I assume Chris will be opening it up as soon as he can (he was camping).
One note: the Gale River Road loop is closed at the south end between Rte 3 and the Garfield trailhead due to bridge issues and washouts from the storm at the start of August.
So you’ll need to go in from the north end of the road and drive the loop all the way around, past the Gale River Trail, to the Garfield Trailhead.

Article on WMUR:
http://www.wmur.com/news/17448742/detail.htmlHmm … having trouble sending out the email, so let me add here:
Hi everybody! We’ve got a flag and pole ready to go up the Rocky Branch Trail off Rte 16 (a little ways south of Pinkham) to the Isolation Trail, to the Davis Path, to the summit.
Start time’s going to be 7am. We’ve got 7.3 miles and 3250′ to cover, and the book says it takes 5:15. Let’s aim for 4:45 or faster with only brief snack breaks along the way.
It looks to be dry the rest of the week, so hopefully the Rocky Branch crossings won’t be a problem.
There’s plenty of water along the trail, you may choose to carry less at the start and load up near or at the last available. However, be prepared to pump really quickly if we’re short on time!
Bring something warm and dry for the summit, since we’ll be there for over an hour and conditions are unpredictable. You might even want to bring a campstove and make yourself a treat.
If someone could bring a small, blank journal, that would be great. We like to allow people to sign in and leave their thoughts or comments, all of which then goes back to the organizers for archiving and possible transcription onto this web site.
I will print up little handout cards that we can give anyone who asks, that simply refer them to the website.
Anything else, just email, or better yet post to the thread in the Trips & Routes 2008 forum.
Thanks!
in reply to: North Tripyramid #54114Just a note for anyone doing the AMC 4000-footers list that riding your bike disqualifies the peak for that purpose.
We’re certainly fine with it from a Fot48 perspective, though! Have fun and be safe. 🙂
in reply to: Handout Cards? #54112I found a pdf of the business cards. Just print those out on a heavy stock and cut ’em up with a paper cutter.
in reply to: Handout Cards? #54111Unfortunately, this year I didn’t have time to make any what with house hunting and now moving. 🙁
In past years, some folk have printed out the “history” page and laminated that to have on the summit. It wasn’t handed out, but was something they could read.
IIn 2006, I used this handout. Lemme see if I can find the source for it.
in reply to: Middle Carter needs help. #54095Thanks, Bob!
in reply to: Two-Way radios #53843Last fall I bought a pair of Midlands and used them while skiing. In some areas I had great success and they were very helpful. In others, I had the most bizarre results: I could hear the person calling me crystal-clear, but they could not hear my response. This happened in several different geographic situations and I don’t know why. The radios were on the same FRS channel and using the same regular tone squelch (not one of the newer digital squelches).
Other than those two situations, which admittedly led to much grief, they worked wonderfully and were very helpful, especially skiing out west in Utah where there was a lot of open space to a) get separated, and 2) pass radio waves through.
Depends on the weather and the quality of your optics!
I’m currently planning to use a 3′ x 5′ flag, since it’s flown before and works well with my flagpole, which is about 10′ long. see here
So no, I don’t think you’ll see it from FR, but anyone on the Southern Presies should have no problem!
