After a great experience last year on Bondcliff, a crew from the MIT Outing Club (MITOC) returned to fly the flag over South Twin in 2007. Erik, Mike S, Onur, Frank, Tamara, and Mike K carried up our trusty PVC pole and raised the flag just after noon.

Despite hazy, threatening skies, we spotted flags on Garfield, N Twin, Hale, Bond, W Bond, and maybe Carrigain. Watching other flags flying around the Pemi showed us how powerful it can be when people unite for a common cause. We were glad to participate once again to honor those who lost their lives om September 11th and to celebrate the persevering American spirit.

Once all the other hikers had left the summit we took a short nap and lowered the flag a little before 2:30. There were lots of friendly folks at the Galehead Hut as usual enjoying the beautiful afternoon sunshine. Rain was just starting when we returned to the trailhead, and overall it was really a great day.

Thanks to everyone who organized and participated in FOT48! We’re definitely looking forward to next year…
