Below is an outline of our day’s adventure on Mt. Moosilauke for this year’s FOT48 memorial hike.

7:30-AM: We will meet up on Ravine Road, Woodstock, N.H. It will be easy to spot me, just look for the Gray Nissan Xterra SUV with 2 small flags flying from the side windows. For GPS directions enter the following address into your GPS: 1 Ravine Road, Woodstock, NH. Don’t be surprised if the GPS shows NORTH Woodstock, this is OK and is the correct address.

We will take a half hour to meet each other, review the plan, and split up the flag equipment between hikers.
8:00-AM: We have a large group of hikers with various experience and fitness levels. Therefore, we will start on the Gorge Brook Trail at 8 to allow a leisurely-paced trek over the roughly 3.6 miles to the 4,802-foot summit of Mt. Moosilauke.
11:30-AM: We will spend a half hour setting up the flag equipment and get settled in for our 2-hour stay on the summit.
12:00 NOON: We will gather around as the flag is raised. Once the flag is flying in the (hopefully) gentle breeze, we will take a moment of silence in respect and remembrance of those lost that fateful day, followed by our National Anthem.
For the next 2 hours, we will switch off as flag monitors while the others roam & explore this magnificent alpine summit. Every year many hikers that come along will question what we are doing. So, please brush up on the history of 9/11 and the purpose of why we are there so you are prepared with the answers to their questions.
2:00-PM We will lower the flag and repack our equipment for the trek off the mountain. At this time we have 2 options. Depending on the weather and how everyone is feeling we will either descend by reversing our ascent route on the Gorge Brook Trail or we will make a loop hike out of the day by following The Carriage Road to Snapper Trail and then rejoining Gorge Brook trail for our final 6/10-mile back to Ravine Road. This loop will also allow any willing team members to make a short 2/10-mile trip to add the summit of South Peak to our day.
Please use the E-Mail Your Coordinator function on the FOT48 website with any questions.
