O.K. Here it is. The itinerary for the journey to the summit of Mt. Isolation for this years 9/11 memorial F.O.T. 48 hike.
There are several people in the Isolation group who have expressed interest in doing an overnight backpacking trip. If you are also interested and have not contacted the group leader to let them know please do so.
The plan for the overnight backpacking group is to meet at the Northeast terminus of the Rocky Branch trail off from RT 16 just North of the highway bridge over the Ellis River ( if you have reached the pinkham Notch Visitors Center you have gone to far North). We will meet at the trailhead on Saturday 9/10/16 at 9:00am and depart for the hike in shortly after that time.
The plan is to hike the Rocky Branch Trail in to the junction with the Isolation Trail and find a suitable area for camping somewhere on the Isolation Trail. The Rocky Branch Shelter #2 has been removed and is no longer available for shelter. The exact location of where the group will camp is touch and go at this point and will depend on several factors like #’s of tents in the group and available camp space along the route. These are the type of details that make backpacking trips more of an adventure!
After camping on Saturday night the overnight group will get back out on the trail in the morning on Sunday. Finishing whats left of the section of the Isolation Trail to the junction with Davis Path and on to the Summit of Mt. Isolation.
The plan is to make it to the summit of Mt. Isolation by no later than 11:00 am to give us time to get things in order for the raising of the colors. Anyone who did not join the overnight group should be at the summit at that time if they wish to help with or witness the flag raising. In accordance with the specifications of F.O.T. 48 the flag must be raised by 12 Noon and remained raised until 2:00pm. after which time the flag will be respectfully lowered and put away for its journey out along with the rest of the group following the same path out as we took to get in.
Any person may take any route to the they wish but remember if you wish to be present for the raising of the flag please be at the Mt. Isolation summit promptly at 11:00am.
Please forward any question, comments or concerns to the the Mt. Isolation group leader Jon Tibbetts.
Looking forward to meeting everyone in the Mt. Isolation group.
