I’m thinking of Sabbaday Brook Trail this year. If someone signs up who prefers another approach, though, I’m open to suggestions.

Last I heard the Kanc is closed. If it doesn’t reopen in time that eliminates the SB Trail. I’ll be figuring out what to do as the time approaches. I’ll be setting up an email distribution list for MT hikers. If you want on it email me at dennis@cookhimes.us or PM me here.

Dennis, I’ll be up in the Whites the whole week prior and I’ll give you a heads up if I learn something new.

I’m still not certain on how we’re going. The Kanc is open from the east to Sabbady Brook but apparently the Sabbady Brook Trail is closed. Waterville Valley seems open. Right now it looks like WV is the best bet, but I still want to hear more updates. Stay tuned.

I’ll be car camping Saturday night. I hope to climb something on Sat. first, but I’m not sure what yet. Where I camp will depend on where I hike and both of those will depend on what the final decision is on the route to Middle Tri. Stay tuned.

I hope to have a final decision no later than Thursday night. I hope that’s not too late for anyone, but these are unusual circumstances.

It’s beginning to look like we’ll be hiking in from Waterville Valley. Silent Cal reports that Tripoli Road is open from one end to the other. No word on Rte. 49, but the NH DOT site shows it “restricted” but not closed. On the other hand, the WMNF site says that Osceola Vista Campground is accessible from Rte. 49 (but not Tripoli Road). The WMNF site also says that the Sabbaday Trail is closed.

Is anybody coming familiar with the trails around there? I’m sure we can figure it out, but the map shows a maze of trails and it’d be nice if one of us were already familiar with it.

My current plan is to meet at the Livermore trailhead at 7:30. I’ll make another post tomorrow evening either confirming or changing that. It looks like the N. Tripyramid people are also starting out there and then, so we might start out together.

I scouted out some of the trails for the FS last week: http://www.newenglandtrailconditions.com/nh/viewreport.php?entryid=5790

Livermore->Scaur->Pine Bend Brook may be your best option. Livermore is passable but pretty rough right now – it’s not the smooth walk it used to be.

I was thinking of Livermore -> Mt. Tripyramid Trail (southern end) -> South Tripyramid -> Middle Tripyramid. I’ve read somewhere that the Livermore Trail between the two MT Trail intersections is especially bad, and this avoids that.

I’m making it official; we’re hiking in from Waterville Valley. We’ll meet at the Livermore Trailhead at 7:30. I’m still not absolutely positive on which route to take, but I’ve heard that the Livermore Trail between the two Mt. Tripyramid Trail intersections is especially bad, so I’m thinking to go up the South Slide and over South Tripyramid on the way to Middle.

I think the Northern Tripyramid crew is starting at the same time and place, so we can consult with them and hike together, at least at the start.

I’ll be coming up on Saturday. I’m planning to hike Sandwich Dome on Sat. and spend the night at Osceola Vista Campground. I’ll check email and this website before I leave Saturday.

So it’s 7:30 a.m. on Sunday the 11th of September at the Livermore Trailhead in Waterville Valley. Be there or be square.
