Again this year we met at McDonalds in Lincoln then together we headed up to the Cap Ridge trail off of rt 302. Got on the trail around 8:30. Nice view at the first outlook about 40 minutes into the hike then it got steep and technical as we scrambled up over the rocky ledgers. We met a few nice hikers along the way (bonjour). The day was cool and a little overcast on the hike up. Reached the summit around 11:45, assembled the poles, attached the flag and then we raised our American flag on top of Mount Jefferson to again memorialize our 9/11 heroes.

Little cold and very windy at the top but Old Glory demonstrated her strength and resolve and survived another memorial event. We had nice lunch and a thoughtful prayer by Brian and then it was time to pack up and head back down.

It was a slow and caution hike down over the ledges but we all made down safe and sound this year. Nice cold refreshments at the trial head (little rain) and then it was off to the “Station” where Brian, Barb and I warmed up.

Thanks to everyone that help raise the flag this year: Eliza, George, Denny, Kevin, Brian, and Barb. And thanks to everyone at the summit who stopped by and show their admiration. (and a kiss)!

Hope to see everyone next year. :flag:

      David
