I’m thinking of going up the South Slide this year.

        Hello Cumulus,

I will also want to tag North Tripyramid on this hike, so if we go up the south slide I would want to go down via either Scaur Ridge or back over Middle Tripyramid and down the south slide. I would also be willing to go up the north slide if it’s not wet (or up Scaur Ridge if it is wet). What time will you want to meet?

On my last three Flags on the 48 I have brought a small Esbit grill and cooked Freedom Dogs for lunch at the top (I got this idea from Dave on Mount Clay in 2011). I will be happy to share if you want some.

I’ve always enjoyed FOT48 and I’m looking forward to doing it again.

        Regards,

        Bob Saidi

          BobSaidi:

Going up the South Slide and going down Scaur Ridge is good. I don’t want to schedule an ascent up the North Slide in case we get some last minute hikers who wouldn’t be comfortable with that. However, if it ends up just being us then we can switch plans at the trailhead (which is exactly what happened last year).

We’ll meet at 7:00 at Livermore Trailhead. That might seem early, but the last time we went up the South Slide, if I remember correctly, we started at 7:30 and got the flag up at 11:59. So I’ve been scheduling it for 7:00 to give us a cushion.

I’ve (mostly) vegetarian, so I’ll pass on the Freedom Dogs, but feel free to bring them.

I see you’re from Glastonbury. I’ve probably hiked more miles in Glastonbury than in any other town on Earth.

Cumulus, a 7:00 start sounds perfect. I’ll bring one package of Freedom Dogs, so there will be a few to share with any visitors we get.

Glastonbury is a great location–my house is just 7 miles from downtown Hartford, but we have lots of rural, hilly country here. In the spring I go for conditioning hikes on the Shenipsit Trail. When my son was younger I would take him hiking in Meshomasic State Forest, and I used to do some mountain biking there, too. Now I do a lot of road biking in the hills without having to worry about much traffic. The only problem is that it’s so far from the White Mountains.
