Hey there! With the loss of the original leaders for Isolation, we’ve stepped in. I hope to post a precise plan really soon, but it’s likely going to be Rocky Branch Trail from the parking area on Rte 16 south of Pinkham, over to the Isolation Trail, and up to the Davis Path. Probably starting around 7:30am, though I have to check the mileage and estimated times to see how that works out.

I have a flag (West Bond 2003, Garfield 2004) and pole, unless someone else has one they want to use.

Oh, also, we plan to bring our dog, Terra. She barks a bit, being an Australian Shepherd and trying to herd the hikers together, but is very friendly and energetic and a lot of fun to hike with. I hope this won’t be an issue for anyone.

hey MichaelJ, can you guys make the flag so we can see it on Franconia Ridge? :flag: 8)

Depends on the weather and the quality of your optics!

I’m currently planning to use a 3′ x 5′ flag, since it’s flown before and works well with my flagpole, which is about 10′ long. see here

So no, I don’t think you’ll see it from FR, but anyone on the Southern Presies should have no problem!

Okay, start time’s going to be 7am. We’ve got 7.3 miles and 3250′ to cover, and the book says it takes 5:15. Let’s aim for 4:45 or faster!

It looks to be dry the rest of the week, so hopefully the Rocky Branch crossings won’t be a problem.

Hmm … having trouble sending out the email, so let me add here:

Hi everybody! We’ve got a flag and pole ready to go up the Rocky Branch Trail off Rte 16 (a little ways south of Pinkham) to the Isolation Trail, to the Davis Path, to the summit.

Start time’s going to be 7am. We’ve got 7.3 miles and 3250′ to cover, and the book says it takes 5:15. Let’s aim for 4:45 or faster with only brief snack breaks along the way.

It looks to be dry the rest of the week, so hopefully the Rocky Branch crossings won’t be a problem.

There’s plenty of water along the trail, you may choose to carry less at the start and load up near or at the last available. However, be prepared to pump really quickly if we’re short on time!

Bring something warm and dry for the summit, since we’ll be there for over an hour and conditions are unpredictable. You might even want to bring a campstove and make yourself a treat.

If someone could bring a small, blank journal, that would be great. We like to allow people to sign in and leave their thoughts or comments, all of which then goes back to the organizers for archiving and possible transcription onto this web site.

I will print up little handout cards that we can give anyone who asks, that simply refer them to the website.

Anything else, just email, or better yet post to the thread in the Trips & Routes 2008 forum.

                Thanks!
