Well, first of all thanks to everyone that participated in this year’s event. Without everyone’s dedication, it would never have been as an extraordinary event as it was. The images so far are amazing and the time and effort invested in some of these displays is truly impressive!

I’d also like to again thank last year’s ‘committee’. You folks are the ones that got the ball rolling with what seems will be an annual event.

Of course a HUGE thanks to the8re (Stephen). Not only did he graciously agree to accept sign-ups and keep track of the peaks list, but he acted as this year’s spokesperson and made a huge impact in promoting the event; from doing interviews to helping write and distribute the press release to promoting the event on other Web sites. My hat’s off to you Stephen. I hope we can meet someday.

Thanks to everyone else for their enthusiasm and help with promoting this. I really wish I could’ve taken part and was thinking about all of you and praying for safe hikes on Saturday. Next year, I’ll hopefully be able to cover a peak. Once the buzz from the event wanes, I hope some of you will stick around here and continue to post on the boards. I think the FOT48 event has in some way created a little ‘community’ here which is a bit different than some of the other Northeast hiking forums out there.

      Thanks again everybody!

        Greg,

And a HUGE thank you to yourself for donating your awesome website and for contibuting your time and energy in keeping this event going. I don’t even want to think about how this event would have turned out over the past 2 years without your support and dedication. Your a class act, and I hope to thank you in person one day…

I do believe that this event will blossom further and further. We, as in this hiking community, can not let these memories be forgotten. We need to remember all the nice things that people told us when they saw our flags. Those warm remarks should be the fuel that keeps this event going. I hope to someday take my nephew ( my sister is due in december) up to a summit for Flags day and let him experience what hiking is all about. With that said here are some of my Thank you’s
Greg – Thanks for this website and all of the effort you put into it. We voted at Mooseland Grill that next year you have to be around for the after-event so you can be thanked personally for your 2+plus years of time that you dedicated to this event.
Stephen – You really got the ball rolling this year and did a fantastic job with all the promotion and behind the scenes work. Your computer savvy really helped to get his event noticed.
Frodo – Three cheers to the linguistic scribe who wrote the history for this event.
All the Flagbearers – a job well done by all!!!!
Grizzlymama – This is not a thank you in a nice way but thanks for making a lot of us so dammed angry that we wouldn’t let this event die because of anyone’s petty narrowmindedness. Your negativity only made this event stronger and for that I say “thanks a lot!”

SilentCal: Thanks for the kind words. I felt a bit hungry after the great day of hiking. I was getting sick of sandwiches and wanted a full meal. Glad I found it at The Grill! The second greatest part of the day was to meet all of the hikers.
Laura and Sky want me to say hello to all participants. It was spectacular!

I’ll second what Silent Cal said about the impetus supplied by Grizzlymama’s negativity. I would have flown a flag from a summit in a raging downpour and not thought twice about it. I can’t begin to imagine the hell that the families of victims will go through for the rest of their lives. If all this makes even one person feel a little comfort, it was worth it.

I wish my wife and I could have hung around the Mooseland Grill a little longer. But it was nice to meet those that where there early. Thanks to all the participants for being part of the day. Damn, this is a great bunch of folks hanging around on this site…if you can’t find friends among this crowd, there is no hope for you!

Thanks especially to Greg and Stephen and Frodo for all the work you guys did in preparation. My taking a few hours to climb a peak I’d probably climb anyway really pales in comparison. Let’s make this really big next year. I met lots of people on Cannon who had heard of this event…it is going to keep growing and it’s up to all of us to not become complacent. Being somewhat hardcore, I’m already planning to take a more obscure peak next year.

There’s really nothing I can say that isn’t already said above, so I’ll just throw my voice in as hugely appreciative of all the work done by the organizers, and of all the effort of the hikers. I am definitely proud of this event and of my part in it. I had a personally vested interest as well and it felt good to stand up at the perpetrators of 9/11; I hope I helped others to feel the same way.

Next year I’m staying closer to the road so I can get there in time to actually meet and thank you in person! Max – West Bond will be available next year. 😉
