Had a great crew of 10 people assembled at the AMC’s Macomber Family Information Center (Crawford Depot) at 9 AM and hit the Avalon trail head after wishing our fellow MT Field hikers well and taking some group photos of each team. We made good time on the trail and reached the summit by ~11AM. It was a cool 40 degrees F and we quickly put on some layers to keep warm, consumed some food and water and then set forth to raise the flag. We located a suitable tree near the summit cairn and lashed the flag pole to it. We took one more team photo after the flag rising. There were many hikers who stated their appreciation of our efforts as they reached the summit that day, one whose son was scheduled to graduate from Army Ranger School the next day. After the flag was set, most of the group headed over to MT Field to greet the Flags on the 48 team. Unfortunately we missed the National Guard helicopter fly by while on the way to MT Field. We took down Old Glory and regrouped at the MT Tom Spur junction just before the weather started to degrade and headed back to Crawford Depot. Many thanks to team members Lois, Celina, Steve, Stephanie, Sean, Alex, Merryn, Mark and Peter.
